Carlos Vega Park Dedication

On behalf of the City of Holyoke and the family of Mr. Carlos Vega, the Holyoke Parks & Recreation Department would like to invite you to attend a very special Park dedication on Thursday, May 3, 2012, between the hours of 1:00 – 4:00 PM.

Mayor Alex B. Morse will begin the dedication ceremony promptly at 1:30. The Children’s Choir from Morgan School will be performing at the ceremony and the second graders will be reading a poem. Aaron Vega, City Councilor and son of Carlos Vega, and Betty Medina-Lichtenstein will be among the featured speakers. Cookies and a beverage will be provided by the culinary arts students at Dean Technical High School.

In honor of Carlos Vega, his family members will be planting a Kousa Dogwood tree in the park. Guests at the dedication will have the opportunity to plant something in the “butterfly patch” that is being prepared by Nancy Howard.

On September 14, 2011, the Holyoke Parks & Recreation Commission formerly voted to re-name the Hamilton Street Park, in South Holyoke as the Carlos Vega Park.
Carlos Vega was one of Holyoke’s most respected community leaders, and an important voice and advocate for the people of this City.

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be rescheduled to the following Thursday, May 10th.
