Voces Corporation shares Hope about Future of Partnership at Annual Meeting

Voces Corporation, a management partnership of a 36 unit affordable housing development between residents, the Valley Opportunity Council (the managing partner), and Nueva Esperanza, Inc. had their Annual Meeting last night, November 16. The Voces Corporation President, Yvonne Garcia, shared with attendees new initiatives for the future, the history of the development, and how the model that the Voces Corporation reflects came to be. This model that does not exist anywhere else in the City of Holyoke, gives residents some control and oversight on the operations of the property and the budget in partnership with the managing partner. Members of Nueva Esperanza, Inc. (the project developer during the rehabilitation 20 years ago and advocate for the current shared resident and management control model) serves on the corporation.

The Property Manager as well as the Executive Director of the Valley Opportunity Council, Stephen Huntley, were present at the Annual Meeting. They gave presentations on the management report as well as the proposed annual budget for FY2018. Ward 2 City Councilor Nelson Roman also attended the annual meeting and shared his vision and support for the community and encouraged residents to take an active role on the corporation.

Residents who were present nominated and voted in three residents to join the Voces Corporation board. This includes Yvonne Garcia, Rosa Velazquez, George Upton, and Luz Velasquez. Appointees from Nueva Esperanza, Inc. include Juan Sanchez, and Joshua A. Garcia (tentatively).
